Slender Salamanders in the genus Batrachoseps are distributed along the Pacific Coast of North America from Northern Baja California to Oregon. They can be found a few meters from the ocean's edge inland to the Sierra Nevada mountains. The excellent CalHerps has a very useful map showing the geographic ranges of Batrachoseps species in California. Compared to many other North American salamanders, we know little about the behavior and ecology of Slender Salamanders. |

Top Photos: California Slender salamanders (Batrachoseps attenuatus) observed in Napa County, California. The photo with three salamanders shows some of the color polymorphism that occurs in this species. All three individuals, from light red to dark brown, were found under the same log.
